Preach by Example

At the close of the Saturday Afternoon Session of the October 2016 General Conference, Elder Dalin H. Oaks spoke about missionary work and shared a few suggestions that all members of the church can apply. One of his suggestions was simply to keep the commandments. Keeping the commandments provides those around us with a good example to follow. There have been many times when I saw someone's righteous behaviour and acted more righteous afterwards to follow suit. Allowing our friends, neighbors, and coworkers to see us living the gospel may prompt them to want to live it as well. Additionally, righteous living will help us have the Spirit with us to guide us to know what to say and when to say it, so when we share the gospel verbally, our words will be more powerful for having lived the gospel faithfully. And even when we don't share the gospel verbally, just living the gospel (or at least striving to) can inspire others to do the same. So as we strive to live the gospel, we can bring the message of the gospel to others more effectively, whether we actually say anything about the gospel or not.
